Freshwater Institute: Winnipeg, MB. The scope of this project was the assembly and programming of a PLC based Controlled Environment/Refrigeration System to emulate underwater lighting and climate conditions. The system required the construction of six main control panels housing Allen-Bradley SLC-504 PLC's and their associated I/O. A primary network based on Allen-Bradley DH+ protocol links the PLC's with a computer running an RSView HMI program for monitoring, changing set points, alarming and trending. The PLC's communicate with over 80 Omron temperature controllers through an Allen-Bradley Basic Module via a secondary RS-485 network. The project was based on a series of six expansions implemented over a number of years. Because technology advanced over the course of the project, upgrading of the existing phases was carried out concurrently with the addition of each new phase. ::: top :::
For this project we supplied, programmed, installed and commissioned the equipment required for full automation of ten bulk grain handling facilities located throughout Western Canada. The sites were completed at a rate of three per year. The system is designed to control and monitor all facets of the plant and allows the operator to receive, transfer, clean and ship grain with the touch of a few buttons. For each of the plants we provided one main control panel housing a Siemens CPU 316-2DP master PLC and three Siemens TP37 touch panels. The first three sites required five satellite panels housing Siemens CPU 215-2DP slave PLCs to act as remote I/O. For the remaining sites mAC112 actuator controllers were used in place of the slave PLCs. As a result, we fabricated approximately 80 panels per site to house the controllers. Extensive reprogramming was required to incorporate the new controllers into the system. No matter the style, the systems communicate via a profibus network running at 500 KB. We continue to provide remote maintenance and troubleshooting service to the plants. ::: top ::: This project entailed the assembly of three 1250A diesel electric generator control panels and two 2000A power distribution panels. These panels are used to supply power to Tadoule Lake, MB. Correct sizing and assembly of the buswork of these panel were critical to the success of the project. ::: top :::
This project required the control of two large engine rooms (over 2,000 tonnes of refrigeration) with high and low temperature systems. The work included the procurement of instrumentation, assembly of motor control centers and construction of control enclosures and cabinets. The system complies with the Guarded Status legislation of Manitoba allowing for remote operation of one half of the system so that the cost of manpower to operate the plant is cut in half. Control and monitoring of all refrigeration equipment, freezers and coolers is accomplished utilizing Allen Bradley equipment. A network of PLC 5 and SLC504 processors are the brains behind the system with a PC running RSView handling the monitoring, control, data collection and alarm logging. We provide programming and maintenance of the renderers/cookers control system. The control items are a critical link in the prevention of the release of biological contamination. All organic refuse exiting the facility passes through this equipment and is subjected to controlled rates of pressure and temperature. All
critical points are monitored and logged, with temperatures and pressures
trended on a batch sequence. A computer running RSView logs the data and
